Breaking up is hard to do, but long-suffering Jets Fan Michael Liquori can no longer just endure another season.
Dear New York Jets,
There is no easy way to say this . . . I can’t do it anymore. I can no longer be your fan. Tears fall year after year, let down after let down, disappointment after disappointment from bad play to bad coaching, Rich Kotite. I have watched it all. Remember when you handed over Ken O’Brian’s Number 7 to Boomer Esaison, only to forget to trade or cut the poor man first….I mean he was only the most sacked quarterback for five years from 85-90! Maybe you thought he wouldn’t notice? Like Browning Nagel, Frank Reich, Neil O’Donnell, Pat Ryan, Chad Pennington, Jeff Blake (remember him?) Rick Meir….
No championship, no accolades, no parades down the Canyon of Heroes to cheer in a confetti filled genuflection of your greatness. Years of no stadium, replaced by playing in Giants Stadium, replaced by MetLife Stadium, where I can get an insurance policy to cover the cost of the ER and aftercare due to my JETS sized emotional and physical distress. Induced by the pain of each passing pathetic season and creating the point that we now find ourselves after all the cost and time invested by us…
Now it has finally led us to this point. I need wins, I need legitimacy, consistency and most importantly the respect that is awarded from your opponents for your effort and team driven goals in victory and failure (see New England Patriots, et al. 2009).
Let’s face it, there is nothing to brag about or look forward to, there is no longer any hope in us! I bought the shirts, jerseys and helmets (Old School AFL Joe Namath, Gang Green J-E-T-S circa ‘84 and the Parcells throwback to the ’60s AFL look)…I bought it all…even the promise of a better next year…I meant next year, no not that year or that year or this year!!!! AHHHHHH! No more!
I will always hold a fond memory for….well, Curtis Martin,Vinny and the Jets, Joe Namath, who I never had the privilege of seeing play, but even he had a losing record… and the Sack Exchange. 50 years of professional football and that is it???? Really!?
Oy the Jets! I’m now destined to be a vagabond of NFL front running from team to team from now on…No more home colored Jersey’s for me.
The Jets and I dreams have finally crashed landed for the last time…Namath, The Sack exchange, Mel Kiper Jr. saying that “the Jets have no idea what he draft is about” , The Butt fumble, the “we got this” attitude and the following let down…giving away your current Quarterback’s number and giving it to the next stiff in line. so for one final time , good bye clown car. I can No longer Just Endure The Season for this guy.
