It’s Super Bowl season, folks. How do I know? Because my uncle’s upped the ante on his annual rally for an even bigger TV screen. (And my aunt’s blood pressure is rising.)
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned from him, it’s to be truly prepared for the game. So whatever team you’re rooting for, we’ve put together a list of gadgetry to optimize your Super Bowl experience. That way, once the day comes, you’ll be set with chips in hand and peace in heart.
The TV
Let’s face it: it doesn’t hurt to watch the game without having to squint. But once you’ve convinced your wallet that it’s necessary, the next step isn’t as easy as you might think. There are countless options, the decision between LCD and plasma and LED LCD, and (of course) the pressing question of size.
The first two problems are up to your personal priorities, but when it comes to size, the general rule of thumb—according to our friends over at The Inside Source—is this:
To identify the proper size of TV to purchase, measure the distance between where you’re sitting and where the TV will live. You want there to be at least two times the TV’s width between the two spaces.
You can get a really sweet Panasonic Viera (the box seats of TV screens) on eBay for under $700 or the Sony Bravia to keep things (relatively) green. Browse around and see what works best for you.
The Home Theater System
Ah, the days when the Home Theater System involved wires and stress. Today’s wireless systems are seamless and way easy to set up. With surround sound, you get to hear every bone crushing tackle, every whistle blow. Hell, maybe even the snacking sounds from the stands. (Probably not but maybe!)
We’re sort of partial to the SONY DAV series—sexy glass panels, aluminum finish—but there are tons of great choices out there to choose from.
The Beer
It’s one of the few precious days when kegs are universally embraced after college. Embrace it. For your libation-dispensing pleasure, check out these keg dispensers and taps if you’re entertaining friends. Just by yourself? Well, you still need to keep your drink cold, and why not show some team spirit while you’re at it?
The Food
This needs no explanation. Food is Super Bowl Food Yes.
For the grillers, here are some nicely priced grills for you to check out. (No worries, they’re usable indoors for those of you who end up stuck in a snow storm.) We’re fans of the Sanyo Smokeless indoor grill, which keeps your viewing area smoke-free and your stomach happy. (Only $55 over at eBay.)
And for the really gung-ho Super Bowl partiers out there, there are themed snack dispensers and snack dishes galore.
